If you have a family reunion that you are planning for or a weekend getaway with friends and you are looking for a primitive camping experience on a warm summer weekend, Berlin Flats Group Area is the place to go! Berlin Flats Group Area is located along Shoshone Creek which is near the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. Here visitors can tent camp or pull out their RVs and trailers.
The campground sits among lodgepole and other mixed pines at an elevation of 2,600 feet and is located among the mountain peaks of the Cascades. If you are a wildlife watcher or photographer you will have the chance of seeing deer, moose, elk, osprey and calliope hummingbirds. Catch-and-release cutthroat trout fishing is very popular on Shoshone Creek and the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. Rafting, swimming and kayaking are also favorite activities on the water. You can also go up into the mountains and pick huckleberries and search for mushrooms.
Berlin Flats Group Area was formed from 9 single family sites and can accommodate up to 75 people. It has a small group fire pit area for everyone to gather to roast some marshmallows and make some smores. Amenities include drinking water from a hand pump and a vault toilet. To get to the campground, take Exit 43 off I-90 and then travel 26 miles North on Forest Service Road #9, then 5 miles North from Prichard on Forest Service Road #208, then turn right on Forest Service Road #412 and travel 9 miles to the campground. All roads are paved except for the last 2 miles of the trip.
