Duran Canyon Campground is in La Junta Canyon. There are 12 sites. A couple of the sites can accommodate an RV, but most are tent only. The campground is at the confluence of Duran Creek and Rito la Presa on Forest Road 76.

 

Prices:
   $12 per night
    $5 per extra vehicle
    $6 for day use

Reservations: First-come, first-served.

Directions: From Taos, N.M., take NM State Road 518 24 miles south, then turn left onto the gravel Forest Road 76 which leads into La Junta Canyon. After about 2 miles, Duran Canyon will be on your right. At the entrance, you drive through the stream on a concrete bridge. See map below.

Amenities: Vault toilets. There are dumpsters and pressurized drinking water just down-canyon from Duran.

Open dates: Opens one week before Memorial Day weekend. Closes two weeks after Labor Day.

Nearby: ATV riding is allowed in La Junta Canyon and there are several popular ATV trails there. ATVs require registration with the state of New Mexico. Out-of-state visitors must buy a temporary registration permit.
